The Department of the Environment makes the following Order in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 1(3) and 1(4)(b) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 2007(1).
1. This Order may be cited as the Road Traffic (2007 Order) (Commencement No. 3 and Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 2008.
2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of Article 81 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 shall be 26th May 2008.
3. In regulation 3 of the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000(2) (amendment to the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981 in respect of motor insurance requirements) omit paragraph (6).

This Order brings into operation on 26th May 2008 Article 81 of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 (“the 2007 Order”).
Article 81 enables the Department to make provision in regulations requiring the Motor Insurers’ Information Centre to make available relevant vehicle insurance information to the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
Article 3 of this Order revokes regulation 3(6) of the Motor Vehicles (Compulsory Insurance) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 as a consequence of the earlier commencement of the repeal in Part 1 of Schedule 8 to the 2007 Order for the entry relating to Article 180(2)(b) of the Road Traffic (Northern Ireland) Order 1981.
