The Department for Employment and Learning[1], in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 78(8)(a) of the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996[2], and now vested in it[3], and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order - Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Time Off for Public Duties Order (Northern Ireland) 2003 and shall come into operation on 24th August 2003. Modifications to the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 2. - (1) The Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 shall be modified as follows -
(b) in Article 78(2)(e) insert the word "or" at the end of the sub-paragraph; and (c) in Article 78(2) after sub-paragraph (e) insert the following sub-paragraph -
(2) In Article 78(7) after sub-paragraph (f) there shall be inserted the following paragraph -
(This note is not part of the Order.) Article 78 of the Employment Rights (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 requires an employer to allow time off during working hours, subject to the provisions of this Article, to an employee who is a member of a body specified in this Article. This Order modifies Article 78 by adding a district policing partnership, established on the coming into force of certain provisions of the Police (Northern Ireland) Act 2000, to the list of bodies whose members are covered by this Article. This Order comes into operation on 24th August 2003.
