The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development[1] in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 19(1), 124(1) and (2) of the Fisheries Act (Northern Ireland) 1966[2], and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation and commencement 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Inshore Fishing (Daily Close Time for Scallops) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2000 and shall come into operation on 29th February 2000. Interpretation 2. In these Regulations -
Prohibition of scallop fishing
(b) during the period commencing at 5 a.m. on each Saturday and ending at 5 a.m. on the next following Monday.
Exemption
(b) fishing from a British fishing boat.
(This note is not part of the Regulations.) These Regulations prohibit the fishing for scallops in Northern Ireland inshore waters during the hours specified. These Regulations only apply to fishing by a British fisherman or from a British fishing boat. A person who commits an offence under section 124 of the 1966 Act, shall be liable on summary conviction to a fine not exceeding level 5 on the standard scale (£5,000).
