In exercise of the powers conferred on me by Article 1(2) and (3) of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 1996[1], I hereby make the following Order: Citation 1. This Order may be cited as the Criminal Justice (1996 Order) (Commencement No. 3) Order (Northern Ireland) 1999. Appointed Day 2. The day appointed for the coming into operation of Part III of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 shall be 1st June 1999. Marjorie Mowlam One of Her Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State Northern Ireland Office 1st May 1999 (This note is not part of the Order.) This Order appoints 1st June 1999 for the coming into operation of Part III of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 1996. Part III extends the jurisdiction of the courts in Northern Ireland in respect of certain offences of dishonesty and blackmail, and the offences of conspiracy, attempting or inciting others to commit those offences and conspiracy to defraud. The substantive offences, and their penalties are unchanged. The effect will be to make it possible to prosecute these offences if any act, omission or other event necessary for their commission occurs in Northern Ireland. (This note is not part of the Order.) The following provisions of the Criminal Justice (Northern Ireland) Order 1996 have been brought into operation by commencement orders made before the date of this order -
