LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Local Government (Superannuation) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999

  Made 6th May 1999 
  Coming into operation 25th June 1999 

The Department of the Environment in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 9 of and Schedule 3 to The Superannuation (Northern Ireland) Order 1972[1] and now vested in it[2] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf and after consultation with such associations of local authorities as appeared to it to be concerned, the local authorities with whom consultation appeared to it to be desirable and such representatives of other persons likely to be affected by the Regulations as appeared to it to be appropriate, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation, commencement and interpretation
     1.  - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Local Government (Superannuation) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1999 and shall come into operation on 25th June 1999.

    (2) In these Regulations - 

Amendment of the principal Regulations
     2. Part I of Schedule 20 to the principal Regulations shall be amended as follows-

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)


These Regulations amend the Local Government (Superannuation) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1992 ("the principal Regulations").

Part I of Schedule 20 to the principal Regulations sets out the constitution of the Northern Ireland Local Government Officers -  Superannuation Committee. Paragraph 1 thereof prescribes the appointment and composition of the Committee. Regulation 2 of these regulations amends paragraph 1 of that Schedule to provide that five (formerly eight) members shall be appointed as representative of scheduled bodies and admitted bodies, and five (formerly eight) members shall be appointed as representative of the classes of officers of scheduled bodies or admitted bodies affected by the regulations.

Regulation 2 also amends paragraph 3 of the said Schedule 20 to provide that the quorum of the Committee shall be 6 (formerly 9).
