SOCIAL SECURITY

The Social Security Administration (Fraud) (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 4) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997

Made 21st November 1997


    The Department of Health and Social Services, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 1(2) of the Social Security Administration (Fraud) (Northern Ireland) Order 1997[1] and of all other powers enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation and interpretation
        1.—(1)  This Order may be cited as the Social Security Administration (Fraud) (1997 Order) (Commencement No. 4) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997.

        (2)  In this Order "the Order" means the Social Security Administration (Fraud) (Northern Ireland) Order 1997.
    Appointed days
        2.—(1)  The day appointed for the coming into operation of Article 14 of the Order (penalty as alternative to prosecution), paragraph 7(a) of Schedule 1 to the Order (minor and consequential amendments) and Article 19(1) of the Order in so far as it relates to that paragraph—
       (a) for the purposes only of authorising the making of regulations is, 21st November 1997; and
       (b) for all other purposes is, 18th December 1997.

        (2)  The day appointed for the coming into operation of paragraphs 5 and 7(d) of Schedule 1 to the Order and Article 19(1) of the Order in so far as it relates to those paragraphs is, 18th December 1997.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)
    This Order provides for the coming into operation of Article 14 of, and paragraph 7(a) of Schedule 1 to, the Social Security Administration (Fraud) (Northern Ireland) Order 1997, which concerns a penalty as an alternative to prosecution, for the purposes of making regulations on 21st November 1997 and for all other purposes on 18th December 1997. It also provides for the coming into operation of consequential amendments in paragraphs 5 and 7(d) of Schedule 1 to that Order on 18th December 1997.
