LOCAL GOVERNMENT

The Local Government (General Grant) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997

The Department of the Environment, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by paragraph 3(1) of Part I of Schedule 1 to the Local Government &c. (Northern Ireland) Order 1972^[1] and now vested in it^[2] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and commencement
    1.    This Order may be cited as the Local Government (General Grant) Order (Northern Ireland) 1997 and shall come into operation on 2nd July 1997.

General Grant
    2.    For the purpose of paragraph 3(1) of Part I of Schedule 1 to the Local Government &c. (Northern Ireland) Order 1972 the districts specified for the year ending 31st March 1998 shall be the districts listed below:—

Antrim	Belfast	Derry[3]	Moyle
Ards	Carrickfergus	Down	Newry and Mourne
Armagh	Castlereagh	Dungannon	Newtownabbey
Ballymena	Coleraine	Fermanagh	North Down
Ballymoney	Cookstown	Larne	Omagh
Banbridge	Craigavon	Limavady	Strabane

Revocation
    3.    The Local Government (General Grant) Order (Northern Ireland) 1993^[4] is hereby revoked.

This Order—
(a) specifies those districts which are to be taken into account in calculating the standard penny rate products for the year ending 31st March 1998 for the purpose of computing the resources element of the grant made from central funds by the Department of the Environment to district councils (Article 2);

(b) revokes a previous Order which is now spent (Article 3).
