SEEDS

Oil and Fibre Plant Seeds (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996

Made 23rd July 1996
Coming into operation 23rd August 1996


    The Department of Agriculture in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 1(1) and 2[1] of the Seeds Act (Northern Ireland) 1965[2] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, after consultation with representatives of such interests as appear to it to be concerned, hereby makes the following Regulations:—
    Citation and commencement
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Oil and Fibre Plant Seeds (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 23rd August 1996.
    Amendment of the Oil and Fibre Plant Seeds Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994
        2.    In the table in paragraph 1(a) of Part II of Schedule 5 (maximum weight of a seed lot and minimum weight of a submitted sample) to the Oil and Fibre Plant Seeds Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994[3] for the figure "20" in the second column opposite the entries "Sunflower" and "Soya bean" in the first column there shall be substituted the figure "25".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

    These Regulations implement as respects Northern Ireland Commission Directive 96/18/EC (O.J. No. L76, 26.3.96, p. 21) amending Annex III to Council Directive 69/208/EEC (O.J. No. L169, 10.7.69, p. 3) on the marketing of seed of oil and fibre plants as amended.
    These Regulations, which come into operation on 23rd August 1996, amend the Oil and Fibre Plant Seeds Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994 to increase the maximum seed lot weight for seeds of sunflower and soya bean to 25 tonnes.
