Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (National Limits) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996

Made 12th November 1996
To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974
Coming into operation 30th December 1996


    The Department of Agriculture in exercise of the powers conferred on it by sections 16(2)(k) and (l), (15) and 24(3) of the Food and Environment Protection Act 1985[1] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, after consultation with the Advisory Committee on Pesticides for Northern Ireland, established under section 16(7) of that Act[2], hereby makes the following Regulations:
    Citation, commencement and interpretation
        1.—(1)  These Regulations may be cited as the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (National Limits) (Amendment) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 30th December 1996.

        (2)  The Interpretation Act (Northern Ireland) 1954[3] shall apply to these Regulations as it applies to a Measure of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
    Amendment of the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (National Limits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995
        2.    In Schedule 2 to the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (National Limits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995[4]

      (a)  the maximum level of 5 milligrams of Thiabendazole per kilogramme of product specified for the product Ware potatoes,

      (b)  the maximum level of 0.5 milligrammes of Pirimiphos-methyl per kilogramme of product specified for the products Grapefruits, Lemons, Limes, Mandarins (including clementines and similar hybrids), Oranges, Pomelos and Other Citrus Fruits, and

      (c)  the maximum level of 5 milligrammes of Pirimiphos-methyl per kilogramme of product specified for the products Wheat, Rye, Barley, Oats, Triticale, Maize, Rice and Other Cereals,
    shall be revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations.)

    These Regulations amend the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (National Limits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995 by removing certain maximum levels of pesticide residues which were included in Schedule 2. These limits are now included in Schedule 2 to the Pesticides (Maximum Residue Levels in Crops, Food and Feeding Stuffs) (EEC Limits) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1995.
