EDUCATION

Education Reform (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

Made 29th July 1996
To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974
Coming into operation 31st August 1996


    The Department of Education, in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Articles 5(7) and 6(6) of the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989[1] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:
    Citation and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Education Reform (Amendment) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 31st August 1996.
    Amendment of Schedule 1 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989
        2.    In Schedule 1 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 in Column 2 after the entry "Science" there shall be inserted the entry "Science and Technology".
    Amendment to Schedule 2 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989
        3.    In Schedule 2 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989[2] in column (2) for the entry "Science (A)" there shall be substituted the entry "Science and Technology (A)".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)

    This Order amends Schedule 1 to the Education Reform (Northern Ireland) Order 1989 (the 1989 Order) to add Science and Technology to the listed contributory subjects.
    This Order also amends Schedule 2 to the 1989 Order, so that the compulsory contributory subject "Science (A)" at key stages 1 and 2 is amended to read "Science and Technology(A)".
    This Order comes into operation on 31st August 1996.
