RATES

Rates (Regional Rate) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996

To be laid before Parliament under paragraph 3(3) of Schedule 1 to the Northern Ireland Act 1974

Made 28th February 1996
Coming into operation 1st April 1996


    The Department of Finance and Personnel[1], in exercise of the powers conferred on it by Article 2(2), 7(1) and 27(4) of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 1977[2] and of every other power enabling it in that behalf, and having taken into consideration estimates of the amounts required to be raised by means of district rates as required by Article 7(4) of that Order, hereby makes the following Order:—
    Citation and commencement
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Rates (Regional Rate) Order (Northern Ireland) 1996 and shall come into operation on 1st April 1996.
    Regional rate
        2.    The regional rate for the year ending 31st March 1997 shall be 158·31 pence in the pound.
    Reduction of regional rate on dwellings
        3.    The amount by which the normal regional rate fixed for the year ending 31st March 1997 under Article 2 is to be reduced for the purposes of paragraphs (2) and (3) of Article 27 of the Rates (Northern Ireland) Order 1977 shall be 72 pence.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order.)
    This Order fixes 158·31 pence in the pound as the amount of the regional rate for the year ending 31st March 1997. It also fixed 72 pence as the amount by which the normal regional rate is reduced in respect of dwelling-houses and hereditaments which, though not dwelling-houses, are used partly for the purposes of private dwellings.
