(This note is not part of the Regulations)
These Regulations amend the Education (Determination of Admission Arrangements) Regulations 1999 in relation to England, and come into force on 26th November 2007.
Section 89(2) of the School Standards and Framework Act 1998 (SSFA) requires admission authorities to consult various bodies about their proposed admission arrangements for each school year. Section 89(2)(e) of SSFA, which was inserted by the Education and Inspections Act 2006, requires admission authorities for foundation and voluntary schools with a religious character to consult such person or body representing their religion or religious denomination as may be prescribed.
These Regulations amend the 1999 Regulations by inserting a new regulation 5ZA and Schedule. The inserted regulation and Schedule together prescribe the relevant persons or bodies to be consulted in relation to certain schools with a religious character (Church of England, Jewish, Methodist, Muslim, Quaker, Roman Catholic, Seventh Day Adventist and Sikh).
These Regulations also revoke the Education (Determining School Admission Arrangements for the Initial Year) Regulations 1998 in relation to England, as these have now lapsed.
