The Secretary of State for Transport makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[1] and now vested in him[2], and all other powers. 1. This Order may be cited as the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle Trunk Road (Haydon Bridge Bypass) (Detrunking) Order 2006 and shall come into force on 20 October 2006. 2. In this Order—
(ii) "the new trunk road" means the new highway which the Secretary of State proposes to construct referred to in article 2 of the A69 Carlisle to Newcastle Trunk Road (Haydon Bridge Bypass) Order 2006[3]; (iii) "the trunk road" means the Carlisle to Newcastle Trunk Road (A69).

The length of the trunk road described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a classified road from the date on which the Secretary of State notifies the Northumberland County Council that the new trunk road is open for traffic. The length of the trunk road ceasing to be a trunk road is situated between a point 30m west of the junction of the A69/U8128 County Road to West Rattenraw measured from the centre of the junction and a point immediately adjacent to the access to the sewage works at the eastern end of Haydon Bridge, and is shown by broad black dashes on the plan numbered HA/10/MP/069, marked "The A69 Carlisle to Newcastle Trunk Road (Haydon Bridge Bypass) (Detrunking) Order 2006" signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Transport, ODPM-DfT Records Management Branch, Floor 13 (IMD), Ashdown House, St Leonards on Sea, Hastings, East Sussex TN37 7GA.
