The First Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 27A(3) and (4)(d) of the Housing Act 1996[1], makes the following Order: Citation, commencement, and application 1. —(1) This Order may be cited as The Social Housing (Grants to Bodies other than Registered Social Landlords) (Additional Purposes) (England) Order 2006 and shall come into force on 6th April 2006. (2) This Order applies in relation to the making of grants under section 27A of the Housing Act 1996 by the Housing Corporation to bodies other than registered social landlords in England[2]. Interpretation 2. In this Order—
(b) is required by the terms of its constituent instrument to devote the whole, or substantially the whole, of its funds for charitable purposes and in fact uses the whole, or substantially the whole, of its funds for the purpose of providing housing accommodation;
(d) the Housing Corporation; (e) a housing trust which is a charity; (f) a registered social landlord, other than a co-operative housing association; or (g) a co-operative housing association, which is not a registered social landlord
has an interest by virtue of which it receives a rack-rent, or would do so if the premises were let at a rack-rent.
(b) facilitating or encouraging improvements in, or providing services in connection with, the management of such housing; (c) providing educational or training courses in housing management to occupiers of such housing; (d) providing services for those providing such courses; (e) providing financial or other assistance for those attending such courses.
(This note is not part of the Order) Under section 27A of the Housing Act 1996 the Relevant Authority may give grant to persons other than registered social landlords for the purposes specified in subsection (2) of that section. The Secretary of State may by order, specify additional purposes for which grant under that section may be given. The Housing Corporation (a body constituted by Schedule 6 to the Housing Associations Act 1985 (c.69)) is a Relevant Authority in accordance with section 56 of the 1996 Act. This Order specifies the following additional purposes for which the Housing Corporation may give grant to persons other than registered social landlords in England –
(b) facilitating or encouraging improvements in, or providing services in connection with, the management of such housing; (c) providing educational or training courses in housing management to occupiers of such housing; (d) providing services for those providing such courses; and (e) providing financial assistance, or other assistance for those attending such courses.
