The Secretary of State makes the following Rules in exercise of the powers conferred by section 36(2) of the Representation of the People Act 1983[1]. In accordance with section 7(1) and 7(2)(d) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000[2], he has consulted the Electoral Commission. Citation, commencement, interpretation and extent 1. —(1) These rules may be cited as the Local Elections (Principal Areas and Parishes and Communities) (Amendment) (England and Wales) Rules 2006. (2) These rules come into force on 24th March 2006 except for the purpose of any election if the last day for publication of the notice of election in respect of that election precedes that date. (3) In these Rules—
(b) "the Parishes and Communities Rules" means the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986[4].
(4) These Rules extend to England and Wales.

(ii) in the Proxy's official poll card, for "The poll will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m." substitute "The poll will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.".

(This note is not part of the Rules) These rules amend the Local Elections (Principal Areas) Rules 1986 and the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986.
