The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred upon him by section 24(1)(cc) of the Representation of the People Act 1983[1], after consultation with the Electoral Commission in accordance with section 7(1) and (2)(c) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000[2], hereby makes the following Order: 1. - (1) This Order may be cited as the Returning Officers (Parliamentary Constituencies) (Wales) (Amendment) Order 2004 and shall come into force on the day after the date on which it is made. (2) References to constituencies in this Order are references to the constituencies in Wales, which are established by the Parliamentary Constituencies (Wales) Order 1995[3] or any subsequent Order in Council in respect of Wales under the Parliamentary Constituencies Act 1986[4]. 2. For Schedule 1 to the Returning Officers (Parliamentary Constituencies) Wales Order 1996[5] (returning officer for certain county constituencies) substitute the following - RETURNING OFFICER FOR CERTAIN COUNTY CONSTITUENCIES
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order amends Schedule 1 to the Returning Officers (Parliamentary Constituencies) (Wales) Order 1996 (S.I.1996/897) by designating returning officers in three further county constituencies in Wales, namely Conwy, Meirionnydd Nant Conwy and Merthyr Tydfil & Rhymney, which, by reason of the changes made by the Preserved Counties (Amendment to Boundaries) (Wales) Order 2003 (S.I. 2003/974), are no longer coterminous with or wholly contained in a preserved county in Wales. The 1996 Order designated returning officers in the county constituencies of Bridgend, Clwyd South and Pontypridd, which are unaffected by the changes made to the preserved county boundaries by the 2003 Order. Notes: [1] 1983 c. 2; section 24(1)(cc) was inserted by paragraph 68(3) of Schedule 16 to the Local Government (Wales) Act 1994 (c. 19).back
