The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 14A of the Animal Health Act 1981[1] makes the following Order - Title, commencement and extent 1. This Order may be cited as the Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease (Contingency Planning) (England) Order 2003, comes into force on 28th August 2003 and extends to England only. Applicability of section 14A of the Animal Health Act 1981 2. Section 14A of the Animal Health Act 1981 (National contingency plan) applies to avian influenza and Newcastle disease. Ben Bradshaw Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs 6th August 2003 (This note is not part of the Order) 1. This Order provides that the requirements in section 14A of the Animal Health Act 1981 (as amended by the Animal Health Act 2002 c. 42) apply to Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease. Section 14A provides for the preparation of national contingency plans indicating the arrangements which the Secretary of State intends to put in place for the purpose of dealing with any occurrence of disease. 2. A Regulatory Impact Assessment has not been prepared in respect of this Order. Notes: [1] 1981 c. 22, as amended by the Animal Health Act 2002 c. 42. Section 18 of the 2002 Act inserted section 14A into the 1981 Act, conferring powers on the Secretary of State in relation to England. The Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease (England and Wales) Order 2003 (S.I. 2003/1734) extended certain powers in the 1981 Act exercisable in relation to Foot-and-mouth disease to avian influenza and Newcastle disease.back
