In exercise of the powers conferred upon the Secretary of State by section 214 of the Education Act 2002[1] the Secretary of State for Education and Skills hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation, commencement and application 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Education (School Teachers' Pay and Conditions) (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 1st August 2003. 2. These Regulations apply in relation to England and Wales. Interpretation 3. In these Regulations "the School Teachers Pay and Conditions Document 2002" means the document brought into effect by article 3 of the Education (School Teachers' Pay and Conditions) (No. 2) Order 2002[2] and as amended by the Education (School Teachers' Pay and Conditions) Order 2003[3]. Amendment to the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2002 4. Paragraph 1.2 of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2002[4] is amended as follows. 5. Insert the following words after "Regulations" in the definition of "Employment-based teacher training scheme" -

Substitute the following definition for the definition of "qualified teacher" -

(This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the definitions of "Employment-based teacher training scheme", "qualified teacher" and "unqualified teacher" in the document published by Her Majesty's Stationery Office and entitled "School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Document 2002" (ISBN 0112711294). These amendments are required to reflect changes in the law relating to teachers' work and qualifications made by sections 122, 132 and 133 of the Education Act 2002.
