The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 19(2) and 20(1) of the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion Act 2002[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations: - Citation, commencement and extent 1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion (Sponsorship) Transitional (Amendment) Regulations 2003 and shall come into force on 27th June 2003. (2) These Regulations extend to England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Amendment of the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion (Sponsorship) Transitional Regulations 2003 2. In regulation 3(2)(b)(ii) of the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion (Sponsorship) Transitional Regulations 2003[2] after the word "visible" there shall be inserted the word "tobacco". Signed by authority of the Secretary of State for Health Hazel Blears Parliamentary Under Secretary of State, Department of Health 23rd May 2003 (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the Tobacco Advertising and Promotion (Sponsorship) Transitional Regulations 2003 in order to clarify the conditions under which there is a time limited exception for the sponsorship of exceptional global events. "Exceptional global event" is defined in regulation 2 of those Regulations. The clarification makes it clear that the reference to "advertisements" in the conditions which apply to the exception is a reference to tobacco advertisements. A separate Regulatory Impact Assessment for these Regulations has not been prepared. Notes: [1] 2002 c. 36. The powers are exercisable by the appropriate Minister, who is defined in section 21, in relation to England, Wales and Northern Ireland, as the Secretary of State.back
