The Secretary of State, in exercise of the power conferred upon him by section 53 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988[1], and after consultation in accordance with section 88(2) of that Act with such representative organisations as he thinks fit, hereby makes the following Order: Citation and commencement 1. - (1) This Order may be cited as the Fixed Penalty (Amendment) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 1st June 2003. (2) This Order applies in relation to a fixed penalty offence alleged to have been committed on or after 1st June 2003. Amendment of the Fixed Penalty Order 2000 2. The table in the Schedule to this Order shall be substituted for the fixed penalties table in the Schedule to the Fixed Penalty Order 2000[2].
Bob Ainsworth Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State Home Office 8th May 2003 (This note is not part of the Order) This Order amends the Fixed Penalty Order 2000, which prescribes fixed penalties for fixed penalty offences. The Fixed Penalty Order 2000 is amended by replacing the fixed penalties table in the Schedule to that Order with the table in the Schedule to this Order. Three offences and their penalties are added to the fixed penalties table. These are a fixed penalty offence under section 143 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 with a penalty of £200; a fixed penalty offence under section 172 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 with a penalty of £120; a fixed penalty offence under section 47 of the Road Traffic Act 1988 with a penalty of £60. The existing fixed penalty offence under section 33 of the Vehicle and Excise Registration Act 1994 is amended in this table to provide for a penalty of £60. Notes: [1] 1988 c. 53.
