The Secretary of State for Transport, makes this Order in exercise of powers conferred by sections 10 and 12 of the Highways Act 1980[1] and now vested in him[2] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf: 1. This Order may be cited as The A34 Trunk Road (A34/A500 Talke Roundabout, Staffordshire to the A5011 Linley Road, Staffordshire) (Detrunking) Order 2003 and shall come into force on 19th May 2003. 2. In this Order -
(ii) "principal road" as a classification for a highway, means that the highway is a principal road for the purposes of enactments and instruments which refer to highways classified as principal roads and is also classified for the purpose of every other enactment and instrument which refers to highways classified by the Secretary of State; and (iii) "the trunk road" means the A34 Trunk Road.

The length of the trunk road route described in the Schedule to this Order shall cease to be a trunk road and shall be classified as a principal road from the date on which the Order comes into force. The length of trunk road ceasing to be trunk road: From a point on the northern boundary of the A34/A500 Talke Roundabout (but not including the circulatory carriageway) (marked "A" on the plan) and continues in a northerly direction, through the District of Newcastle-under-Lyme in the County of Staffordshire terminating at a point on the eastern boundary with the A5011 Linley Road (marked "B" on the plan), a distance of approximately 2.2 kilometres.
