The Treasury, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 33(2) of the Credit Unions Act 1979[1], hereby make the following Order: Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Credit Unions Act 1979 (Commencement No. 3) Order 2003 and comes into force on 1st September 2003. Commencement of section 3(2) and (3) of the 1979 Act 2. 1st September 2003 is the day appointed for the coming into operation of subsections (2) and (3) of section 3 of the Credit Unions Act 1979 (use of the name "credit union")[2]. These provisions specify that it is a criminal offence to use the name "credit union" except in certain specified circumstances. Notes: [1] 1979 c.34. When the 1979 Act was originally enacted, orders made under section 33(2) of the 1979 Act (commencement orders) were not subject to any Parliamentary procedure.
