NATIONAL LOTTERY

The National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Increase of Endowment) Order 2003

  Made 5th February 2003 
  Coming into force 6th February 2003 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by section 19(2) of the National Lottery Act 1998[1], and having consulted each of the bodies for the time being mentioned in section 23 of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993[2], hereby makes the following Order, a draft of which has, in accordance with section 19(8) of the National Lottery Act 1998, been laid before, and approved by a resolution of, each House of Parliament:

Citation and commencement
     1. This Order may be cited as the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (Increase of Endowment) Order 2003 and shall come into force on the day after it is made.

Increase of endowment
    
2. For the purposes of increasing the amount of the endowment of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts ("NESTA"), the Secretary of State is to be permitted to pay to NESTA the sum of £95,000,000 out of the money held in the National Lottery Distribution Fund and allocated, in accordance with section 22(3)(f) of the National Lottery etc. Act 1993[3], for expenditure on or connected with health, education or the environment.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order permits the Secretary of State to increase the amount of the endowment of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. For this purpose, the Order enables the Secretary of State to pay to NESTA the sum of £95,000,000 out of the money held in the National Lottery Distribution Fund and allocated for expenditure on or connected with health, education or the environment.
