EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)

These Regulations amend the Motor Vehicles (EC Type Approval) Regulations 1998 ("the 1998 Regulations").

Directive 71/320/EEC[
4] relating to the technical specification for braking devices in certain motor vehicles (a "separate Directive" specified in Schedule 1 to the 1998 Regulations) has been amended by Directive 2002/78/EC. Regulation 2 inserts a reference to Directive 2002/78/EC at the appropriate place in the table in Schedule 1 to the 1998 Regulations, thereby implementing that Directive for the purposes of EC type approval procedures.

In line with the 1998 Regulations, the use of the symbol * denotes that the Directive specified is a Commission Directive.

This Explanatory Note incorporates the Transposition Note that would otherwise have been provided separately.

Copies of the EC Directives referred to in these Regulations can be obtained from the Stationery Office.
