The Secretary of State for Education and Skills, in exercise of the powers conferred upon her by section 5(3) of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Act 1991[1] hereby makes the following Order: 1. This Order may be cited as the School Teachers' Remuneration Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st September 2002. 2. In this Order -

For the purposes of the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Act 1991, a personal bonus payment made by a governing body of a school maintained by an authority to a school teacher who undertakes an Excellence Fellowship shall not be regarded as remuneration. (This note is not part of the Order) Under the School Teachers' Pay and Conditions Act 1991 (the Act), the Secretary of State is authorised to make pay and conditions orders containing provisions about the statutory conditions of employment of school teachers, including their remuneration. This Order provides that for the purposes of the Act personal bonus payments to school teachers in taking part in the Excellence Fellowships scheme with a higher education institution shall not be regarded as remuneration.
