The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on her by sections 20(3) and (8), 21(8), and 51(4) of the Gaming Act 1968[1], hereby makes the following Order:
1. - (1) This Order may be cited as the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2002.
(2) This Order shall come into force on 12th August 2002.
(3) In this Order "the 1968 Act" means the Gaming Act 1968.
2. - (1) Section 20(3) of the 1968 Act (under which the maximum permitted aggregate amount of winnings in respect of games of bingo played in one week simultaneously on different club premises is £55,000[2]) shall have effect with the substitution, for the reference to the sum specified in that subsection, of a reference to the sum of £500,000.
(2) Section 20(8) of the 1968 Act (under which the maximum amount by which weekly winnings on any particular bingo club premises may exceed the aggregate amount of the stakes hazarded is £10,000[3]) shall have effect with the substitution, for the reference to the sum specified in that subsection, of a reference to the sum of £20,000.
3. It is hereby directed that section 21(2)(b) and (e) of the 1968 Act (conditions on which gaming for prizes is permitted at licensed club premises) shall have effect as if -
-
(a) for the sum specified in paragraph (b) there were substituted the sum of £500[4];
(b) for the sum specified in paragraph (e) there were substituted the sum of £500[5].

Article 3 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2000[6] and article 2 of the Gaming Act (Variation of Monetary Limits) Order 2001[7] are hereby revoked.

This Order increases the monetary limits specified in sections 20(3) and (8) and 21(2)(b) and (e) of the Gaming Act 1968 (c. 65) and described by articles 2 and 3 of this Order. The effect of this Order is to increase -
-
(a) the maximum added weekly prize money for bingo games played in any one club from £10,000 to £20,000;
(b) the aggregate weekly prize in linked bingo games played in any club from £55,000 to £500,000;
(c) the total take, and total prizes, in prize bingo games, as played in bingo clubs from £120 to £500.
