EDUCATION

The Disability Discrimination (Designation of Educational Institutions) Order 2002

  Made 30th May 2002 
  Laid before Parliament 7th June 2002 
  Coming into force 28th June 2002 

The Secretary of State for Education and Skills in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 28R(6)(c) and 28R(7)(e) of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995[1] and having consulted the Scottish Ministers as required by section 28R(10) of that Act as to the exercise of the power in section 28R(7)(e) hereby makes the following Order:

     1. This Order may be cited as the Disability Discrimination (Designation of Educational Institutions) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 28th June 2002.

    
2. The institutions specified in the Schedule to this Order, being institutions which the Secretary of State is satisfied as required by section 28R(9) are wholly or partly funded from public funds, are hereby designated as educational institutions for the purposes of Part IV of the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 and the body responsible for each such educational institution is the body specified in that Schedule.

This Order designates those institutions in England, Wales and Scotland which, together with others, are educational institutions for the purposes of Part IV of the Disability Discrimination Act and identifies the body responsible for each. The effect of designation is to place the responsible body under a duty to comply with the provisions of Part IV.
