EDUCATION, ENGLAND

The Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) (England) Order 2002

  Made 6th March 2002 
  Laid before Parliament 7th March 2002 
  Coming into force 1st April 2002 

Being of the opinion that the Teacher Training Agency[1] may, having regard to their general objectives, appropriately discharge the additional functions hereby conferred and having carried out such consultation as appears to her to be appropriate pursuant to section 16(3) of the Education Act 1994[2], the Secretary of State in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 16(1) and 23(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, commencement and application
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) (England) Order 2002 and shall come into force on 1st April 2002.

    (2) This Order shall only apply in relation to England.

Conferring of additional function
    
2. The additional function of administering on behalf of the Secretary of State any scheme established by her for the payment of grants under the Education (Teacher Training Bursaries) (England) Regulations 2002[3] is hereby conferred on the Teacher Training Agency.

Revocation
     3. The Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) (England) (No. 2) Order 2001[4] is revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order confers on the Teacher Training Agency the additional function of administering the scheme of paying grants to institutions for the purpose of providing bursaries to persons to encourage and facilitate the training of them as teachers. The scheme was established under the Education (Teacher Training Bursaries) (England) Regulations 2002 (S.I. 2002/508). The Order also revokes the Teacher Training Agency (Additional Functions) (England) (No. 2) Order 2001 (S.I. 2001/2747).
