The Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2001

  Made 28th October 2001 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 163(2) of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000[1], hereby makes the following Order:

Citation and interpretation
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2001.

    (2) In this Order "the Act" means the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000.

Provisions coming into force on 30th October 2001
    
2. The following provisions of the Act shall come into force on 30th October 2001 - 

    (a) sections 6(1)(d) and 15;

    (b) section 14, insofar as it relates to the Boundary Committee for England; and

    (c) section 18, insofar as not already in force.

Provisions coming into force on 1st January 2002
    
3. Sections 41 to 49 of, and Schedule 5 to, the Act shall come into force on 1st January 2002.

Provision coming into force on 1st April 2002
    
4. Section 141 of the Act shall come into force on 1st April 2002.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


Articles 2, 3 and 4 of this Order bring into force, on 30th October 2001, 1st January and 1st April 2002 further provisions of the Political Parties, Elections and Referendums Act 2000. These relate to Deputy Electoral Commissioners of the Electoral Commission, the Boundary Committee for England, transfer of functions from the Local Government Commission for England, accounting requirements for registered political parties, and the qualifying period for overseas electors.
