INVESTIGATORY POWERS

The Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2001

  Made 26th July 2001 

In exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 83(2) of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000[1], the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:

     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (Commencement No. 2) Order 2001.

    (2) In this Order, "the Act" means the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000.

    
2. Sections 71 and 72 of the Act (codes of practice), to the extent that they relate to Chapter II of Part I of the Act (acquisition and disclosure of communications data), shall come into force on 13th August 2001.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings into force on 13th August 2001, sections 71 and 72 of the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 for the purposes of Chapter II of Part I of that Act. Sections 71 and 72 relate to the issue and effect of codes of practice. Chapter II of Part I relates to the acquisition and disclosure of communications data.
