Whereas in pursuance of section 6(4) of the Veterinary Surgeons Act [a]1966[1] the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has made regulations entitled "The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations 2001" set out in the Schedule to this Order: And whereas by section 25(1) of the Act such Regulations shall not have effect unless approved by Order of the Privy Council: And whereas by section 25(2) of the Act any Order under section 25(1) may be revoked by a subsequent Order of the Privy Council: Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken these Regulations into consideration, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 25(1) and (2), do hereby order as follows: 1. These regulations are hereby approved. 2. The Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations Order of Council 1967[2], the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1971[3] and the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) (Amendment) Regulations Order of Council 1998[4] are hereby revoked. 3. This Order may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations Order of Council 2001, and shall come into force forthwith. A. K. Galloway Clerk of the Privy Council The Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in exercise of its powers under section 6(4) of the Veterinary Surgeons Act 1966, hereby makes the following Regulations: - 1. These Regulations may be cited as the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations 2001. 2. - (1) In these Regulations, unless the context otherwise requires: -
"candidate" means a person required by the Council under section 6(2) of the Act to sit for the statutory examination; "Council" means the Council of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; "Education Committee" means the Education Committee of the Council; "Examination Appeals Committee" means the Examination Appeals Committee of the Council; "examiners" means the examiners appointed by the Education Committee; "registrar" means the registrar of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons; "statutory examination" means the examination to be held by the Council for the purpose of section 6(2) of the Act.
(2) References in these Regulations to a numbered Regulation mean the Regulation bearing that number in these Regulations, and references in these Regulations to "the Schedule" mean the Schedule to these Regulations.
(b) clinical examinations in medicine, surgery and reproduction.
(2) The statutory examination, or any part thereof, may be held by the Council or other examining body. The Education Committee may make rules for the conduct of the statutory examination dealing with such matters as are not expressly governed by the Act or these Regulations and may publish Guidance Notes stating the rules which have been made and giving such other information as it may think appropriate.
The following fees are hereby specified for the purposes of Regulation 9: - 1. Fee for sitting the whole of the statutory examination £1000 2. Fee for sitting any subjects(s) of the statutory examination separately under Regulation 5 £500. (This note is not part of the Order) The Regulations approved by this Order revoke and replace the Veterinary Surgeons (Examination of Commonwealth and Foreign Candidates) Regulations 1967 as amended. These Regulations further increase the fees payable by persons holding certain Commonwealth or foreign qualifications in veterinary surgery for sitting the whole or part of the statutory examination of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
