The General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 2001

At the Council Chamber, Whitehall, the 19th day of March 2001

By the Lords of Her Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council

Whereas in pursuance of section 10 of the Opticians Act 1989[1] the General Optical Council have made the Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 2001 as set out in the Schedule to this Order:

     And whereas by section 34 of the Act such rules shall not come into force until approved by Order of the Privy Council:

     And whereas upon rule 3 of these rules coming into force the revocation mentioned therein will render wholly spent the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1999[2]:

     Now, therefore, Their Lordships, having taken these rules into consideration, are hereby pleased to approve them, and hereby revoke with effect from 1st April 2001 the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 1999.

This Order may be cited as the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules) Order of Council 2001.

SCHEDULE

GENERAL OPTICAL COUNCIL


The Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 2001

In pursuance of their powers under section 10 of the Opticians Act 1989, the General Optical Council hereby make the following rules: - 

     1. These rules may be cited as the Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 2001.

     2. In the Registration and Enrolment Rules 1976 (which in their original form are scheduled to the General Optical Council (Registration and Enrolment Rules) Order of Council 1977[
3]) the Appendix shall be amended by replacing the figures £85, £50 and £31, on each occasion where they appear, by the figures £90, £53 and £33 respectively.

     3. The Registration and Enrolment (Amendment) Rules 1998[4] (which will be spent on the coming into force of these rules) are hereby revoked.

     4. These rules shall come into force on 1st April 2001 and shall apply to applications for registration, enrolment, retention, restoration and transfer to take effect on or after 1st April 2001 whether made before, on or after that date.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


The rules approved by this Order increase with effect from 1st April 2001 the fees payable to the General Optical Council by opthalmic and dispensing opticians and bodies corporate carrying on business as opticians for registration, enrolment or retention in, restoration to and transfer within the register of opticians. The fees were last fixed with effect from 1st April 1999 and have been increased by 6 per cent.

This Order also revokes a previous Order of Council which becomes spent on the revocation of rules which are scheduled to it.
