The Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2001

  Coming into force 28th March 2001 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 1(1) and 3(1)(a) and (b) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949[1] as enacted, and now vested in him[2], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations - 

     1. These Regulations may be cited as the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 28th March 2001.

    
2. The Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) Regulations 1999[3] are hereby amended as follows - 

    (a) in Part I of Schedule 3 - 

      (i) the following definition shall be inserted after the definition of "BTx" - 

      " "CDMA" means Call Division Multiple Access as defined in the Radio Regulations;"and

      (ii) "and" at the end of the definition of "relevant network" shall be deleted and the following definition shall be inserted after that definition - 

      " "TDD" means Time Division Duplex as defined in the Radio Regulations; and";

    (b) the following Part shall be substituted for Part III of Schedule 3 -

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend the Wireless Telegraphy (Exemption) Regulations 1999 (S.I. 1999/930, as amended by S.I. 2000/1012) in order to exempt additional wireless telegraphy equipment from the requirement to be licensed under section 1(1) of the Wireless Telegraphy Act 1949 (c. 54). Such equipment are stations established or used and apparatus installed or used in relation to the following systems or services:

    (a) meteor burst data systems;

    (b) Universal Mobile Telephony System;

    (c) CDMA spread spectrum data asset tracking systems;

    (d) public two-way paging systems; and

    (e) Thuraya Land Mobile-Satellite Service.
