EDUCATION, ENGLAND

The General Teaching Council for England (Registration of Teachers) (Amendment) Regulations 2001

  Laid before Parliament 9th January 2001 
  Coming into force 31st January 2001 

In exercise of the powers conferred on the Secretary of State by sections 4(1), 4(2)(j), 14(3) and 42(6) and (7) of the Teaching and Higher Education Act 1998[1], and after consulting the General Teaching Council for England in accordance with section 42(9) of that Act, the Secretary of State for Education and Employment hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as the General Teaching Council for England (Registration of Teachers) (Amendment) Regulations 2001 and shall come into force on 31st January 2001.

Amendment of the General Teaching Council for England (Registration of Teachers) Regulations 2000
    
2. Regulation 1(2) of the General Teaching Council for England (Registration of Teachers) Regulations 2000[2] is amended by the substitution for "1st February 2001" of "1st June 2001".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend the General Teaching Council for England (Registration of Teachers) Regulations 2000 (S.I. 2000/2176) ("the Regulations") to change the date on which regulations 12, 16 and 17 of the Regulations come into force from 1st February 2001 to 1st June 2001. Regulation 12 of the Regulations makes provision about public access to the Register of teachers. Regulations 16 and 17 of the Regulations require the General Teaching Council for England on request to supply certain information from the Register of teachers to teachers' employers and prospective employers and to the General Teaching Council for Scotland.
