The Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 5) Order 2000

  Made 18th December 2000 

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 108(5) and (7) of the Local Government Act 2000[1] hereby makes the following Order: - 

Citation and application
     1.  - (1) This Order may be cited as the Local Government Act 2000 (Commencement No. 5) Order 2000.

    (2) This Order applies in relation to England and to police authorities in Wales.

Provisions coming into force on 19th December 2000
    
2. Sections 49 to 55, 57 to 67, 75 to 83 and 91 to 93 of, Schedule 4 to, and paragraphs 9 to 11, 14, 28 and 30 to 32 of Schedule 5 to, the Local Government Act 2000 shall come into force on 19th December 2000.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order brings into force, in relation to England and to police authorities in Wales, further provisions of the Local Government Act 2000.

Article 2 brings into force provisions in Part III of, and Schedule 4 and 5 to, the Local Government Act 2000 concerning the ethical conduct of members of relevant authorities. The article also brings into force provisions amending the Audit Commission Act 1998, enabling relevant authorities to make payments to persons affected by an authority's maladministration, and enabling the Secretary of State to make grants to local authorities for welfare services.
