The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of the power conferred on him by section 43(2) of the Food Standards Act 1999[1], hereby makes the following Order: 1. This Order may be cited as the Food Standards Act 1999 (Commencement No. 1) Order 2000. 2. The following provisions of the Food Standards Act 1999 shall come into force on 11th January 2000 -
(b) in so far as they relate to Wales and Scotland, section 3(4) and (5) (appointment of directors), section 5(1) and paragraphs 1, 5 and 6 of Schedule 2 (advisory committees); (c) section 3(6) (holding of office) in so far as -
(ii) it is concerned with directors and relates to Wales and Scotland;
(d) for the purpose of introducing those provisions of Schedule 2 which are brought into force by this Order, section 5(4);
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order brings into force, on 11th January 2000, sections 1(1), 2, 3(1) to (3), 36(2), 41 and 42 of, and Schedule 1 to, the Food Standards Act 1999. It also brings into force, for certain purposes, sections 3(4) to (6), 5(1), 5(4) and 36(1) and paragraphs 1, 5 and 6 of Schedule 2. These provisions between them provide for the constitution of, and for particular appointments to, the Food Standards Agency, the establishment of advisory committees for Scotland and Wales and the making of transfer schemes and transitional regulations.
