CUSTOMS AND EXCISE

Export of Goods (Licences for Exports to Indonesia) (Variation) Order 1999

  Made 16th September 1999 
  Coming into force 16th September 1999 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1 of the Import, Export and Customs Powers (Defence) Act 1939[1] and now vested in him[2], and of all others enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order:

Citation, Commencement and interpretation
     1. This Order may be cited as the Export of Goods (Licences for Exports to Indonesia) (Variation) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 16th September 1999.

    
2.  - (1) All standard individual export licences, standard individual transhipment export licences and open individual export licences authorising the export to Indonesia of goods of a description specified in Part III of Schedule 1 to the Export of Goods (Control) Order 1994[3] are hereby varied.

    (2) The variations referred to in paragraph (1) are:

    (a) a condition shall be added to each standard licence as described in paragraph (1) as follows:

    " No goods may be exported under the authority of this licence between the dates of 16th September 1999 and 16th January 2000;"

and

    (b) there shall be substituted for the date specified for the expiry of the licence a date 123 days later than that date.

    (c) a condition shall be added to open individual licences as follows:

    " No goods may be exported under the authority of this licence to Indonesia between the dates of 16th September 1999 and 16th January 2000."

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


This Order gives effect to the Common Position of the European Union imposing an embargo on the export of military goods and equipment and a ban on the supply of equipment which might be used for internal repression or terrorism by varying the provisions of certain export licences to prevent the export of those goods during the period of operation of the Common Position which is stated to expire by 17th January 2000.
