The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 17(2) and (3) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984[1], and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, and after consultation with representative organisations in accordance with section 134(2) of that Act, hereby makes the following Regulations: Citation, commencement and interpretation 1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the M61 Motorway (Kearsley Spur) (Speed Limit) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 22nd September 1999. (2) In these Regulations-
(b) "the northbound exit slip road" means the northbound exit slip road linking the northbound carriageway of the Kearsley Spur with the Kearsley roundabout.
Imposition of speed limit
(b) the northbound exit slip road between its junction with the northbound carriageway of the Kearsley Spur and its junction with the Kearsley roundabout (Bolton Road).
(3) For the purposes of this regulation the junction between the Kearsley Spur and the northbound exit slip road shall be taken to be marked by a gantry over the carriageway on which there are for the time being displayed traffic signs of the size, colour and type shown in diagram 670 of the Traffic Signs Regulations 1994[2] varied to indicate a speed limit of 50 miles per hour. (This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations impose a speed limit of 50 miles per hour on part of the Kearsley Spur of the M61 Motorway and a slip road from that spur.
