The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of powers conferred on him by sections 13, 16(1), 17, 18, 126(3) and (4) of the National Health Service Act 1977[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf hereby makes the following Regulations:- Citation, commencement and interpretation 1. - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Functions of Health Authorities and Administration Arrangements) Amendment (Wales) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 31st July 1999. (2) In these Regulations, "the principal Regulations" means the National Health Service (Functions of Health Authorities and Administration Arrangements) Regulations 1996[2]. Amendment of the principal Regulations 2. - (1) The principal Regulations are amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation. (2) In regulation 2(1) (interpretation), after the definition of the "1997 Act"[3] there is inserted the following definition-

(ii) in paragraph (2), after "the primary care group" insert "or, as the case may be, the local health group".
(This note is not part of the Regulations) These Regulations amend the National Health Service (Functions of Health Authorities and Administration Arrangements) Regulations 1996 in relation to Wales by providing for local health groups appointed by Health Authorities to exercise certain additional functions on behalf of neighbouring Health Authorities in certain cases.
