The Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Amendment (Wales) Regulations 1999

  Made 30th June 1999 
  Laid before Parliament 8th July 1999 
  Coming into force 31st July 1999 

The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of powers conferred on him by section 126(4) of and paragraph 12(b) of Schedule 5 to the National Health Service Act 1977[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation, commencement and interpretation
     1.  - (1) These Regulations may be cited as the Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Amendment (Wales) Regulations 1999 and shall come into force on 31st July 1999.

    (2) In these Regulations, "the principal Regulations" means the Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Regulations 1996[
2].

Amendment of the principal Regulations
     2.  - (1) The principal Regulations are amended in accordance with the following paragraphs of this regulation.

    (2) In regulation 1(2), after the definition of "health service body" the following definition is inserted-

    (3) In regulation 14(3) after the words "advise the Authority" insert ", a local health group,".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend the Health Authorities (Membership and Procedure) Regulations 1996 in relation to Wales.

Under regulation 14(3) of the principal Regulations the majority of the members of a committee or sub-committee of a health authority must, subject to certain exceptions, be persons who do not provide, or assist in providing, Part II services. These Regulations make provision for a further exception in the case of committees known as local health groups appointed in accordance with a circular of the Secretary of State for Wales.
