The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of powers conferred by sections 1(8), 26(9)(a), 29(1) and (6) and section 30(1)[1] of the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993[2], hereby makes the following Order- Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (Addition of Qualifying Judicial Offices) Order 1999 and shall come into force on 1st June 1999. Amendment of Schedules 1 and 5 to the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 2. In Part II of Schedule 1 to the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (offices which may be qualifying judicial offices for the purposes of Part I of the Act) there shall be added at the end of the entry headed "Other officers whose holders are appointed by the Lord Chancellor" the following offices-
(b) either-
(ii) is an advocate or solicitor in Scotland
Member of a panel constituted under Article 7(1) of the Social Security (Northern Ireland) Order 1998[5] who-
(b) is a barrister or solicitor".

At the end of Schedule 5 to that Act (retirement provisions: the relevant offices) there shall be added the following offices-
Member of a panel constituted under Article 7(1) of the Social Security (Northern Ireland) Order 1998".
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order adds two offices to the list of offices-
(b) in Schedule 5 to that Act (retirement provisions: the relevant offices).
This Order does not impose a charge upon business. Notes: [1] Under section 30(1) of the Judicial Pensions and Retirement Act 1993 (c. 8), the Lord Chancellor is "the appropriate Minister" for the purposes of that Act in relation to judicial offices other than those whose jurisdiction is exercised exclusively in relation to Scotland.back [5] S.I. 1998/1506 (N.I. 10).back
