Whereas under section 17(1) of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973[1], as read with Schedule 5 to that Act[2], the Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland on 16th October 1998 submitted to the Secretary of State a report on a review together with its proposals for the future electoral arrangements for the area of Argyll and Bute Council;
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 17(2) and 233(3) of, and Schedule 5 to, the said Act and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, the Secretary of State hereby makes the following Order:
Citation and commencement
1. This Order may be cited as the Argyll and Bute (Electoral Arrangements) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 1st January 1999.
Interpretation
2. In the Schedule to this Order-
-
(a) a reference to-
-
(i) an electoral ward is a reference to that electoral ward as constituted in this Order; and
(ii) a road, footpath, railway line, river, burn or canal shall, where the context so admits, be construed as a reference to the centre line of the feature concerned; and
(b) the following abbreviations are used:-

"EW" for electoral ward;

"NG Ref" for National Grid Reference as published on Ordnance Survey Maps.
Electoral arrangements
3.
The area of Argyll and Bute Council shall be divided into 36 wards, having the names, contents and boundaries set forth in the Schedule to this Order.

Commencing at NG Ref NR 8048 9245 where the Barnakill Burn enters the River Add; then generally southeastward along the said burn to where it is crossed by a track leading to Barnakill Farm; then generally southeastward along the said track to No 11 Lock on the Crinan Canal; then southwestward across the said lock to the B841 road; then generally southeastward along the said road to its junction with the A816 (T) road; then southeastward along the said road to a point, NG Ref NR 8495 8996; then southward to the confluence of Craig Glass Burn and the Crinan Canal; then westward to and southwestward along the said burn to NG Ref NR 8336 8711; then eastward in a straight line to a point on a track at NG Ref NR 8375 8711; then generally eastward along the said track to a point on a field boundary to the south of Brackley Farm; then southwestward, southeastward and northeastward along the western, southern and eastern boundaries of the said field and the continuation in a straight line to a point on a track at NG Ref NR 8522 8729; then generally northeastward along the said track and the continuation in a straight line to the centreline of Loch Gilp; then generally southeastward along the said loch to the centreline of Loch Fyne; then generally southward along the said loch to the northern boundary of EW 4; then generally southwestward and westward along the said boundary to the centreline of the Sound of Jura; then northeastward along the said sound, passing to the east of Ruadh Sgeir and Eilean na h-Eairne, to an undeterminable point in line with the centreline of Loch Crinan; then southeastward to and along the said loch, passing to the north of Black Rock and south of Rubha na Moine, to the mouth of the River Add; then generally southeastward along the said river to the point of commencement.

Commencing at NG Ref NR 8173 9177 on the northern boundary of EW 5 where the Barnakill Burn is crossed by a track; then eastward in a straight line, passing to the south of the property known as Achnashelloch, to the summit of The Cruach at NG Ref NG NR 9059 9190; then southwestward in a straight line to the summit of Cnoc Odhar at NG Ref NR 9019 8811; then eastward in a straight line to the source of an unnamed burn at NG Ref NR 9141 8802; then southeastward and generally northeastward along the said burn to where it enters Loch Fyne and the continuation in a straight line to the centreline of Loch Fyne; then southwestward along the said loch to the eastern boundary of EW 5; then generally northwestward along the northern boundary of EW 5 to the point of commencement.
Ward 7 Craignish - Glenaray

Ward 8 Islay North, Jura and Colonsay
Commencing on the western boundary of EW 10 at an indeterminable point to the northeast of Dubh-fheith and southwest of Easdale; then generally southward and southeastward along the western boundaries of EW 10, 7 and 5 to a point opposite where the Abhainn Torr a Mhuilinn enters the Sound of Islay at NG Ref NR 4586 5681; then westward in a straight line to the said point; then southwestward in a straight line to the summit of Benn Bheigeir at NG Ref NR 4303 5644; then northwestward in a straight line to a point on the Kilennan River at NG Ref NR 3763 5790 to the northeast of the property known as Kilennan; then northwestward in a straight line to where a field boundary is crossed by a track leading to Mulindry Farm at NG Ref NR 3509 5934; then northwestward in a straight line to NG Ref NR 3368 6139 to where a track crosses an unnamed burn; then continuing along the said burn to where it enters Loch Indaal at NG Ref NR 3351 6149; then westward in a straight line to an undeterminable point in the centre of Loch Indaal; then southwestward from the said point until it meets the northern boundary of EW 3; then westward along the said ward boundary to the western boundary of Argyll and Bute Council; then generally northward along the said council boundary to a point in line with Dubh-fheith; then generally eastward in a straight line passing to the south of Dubh-fheith to the point of commencement.

Ward 10 Awe
