RATING AND VALUATION

The Non-Domestic Rating Contributions (England) (Amendment) Regulations 1998

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 140(4) and 143(1) and (2) of, and paragraphs 4 and 6 of Schedule 8 to, the Local Government Finance Act 1988[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations:

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as the Non-Domestic Rating Contributions (England) (Amendment) Regulations 1998 and shall come into force on 31st December 1998.

Amendment of the 1992 Regulations
    
2. Schedules 1 and 2 to the Non-Domestic Rating Contributions (England) Regulations 1992[2] are amended as follows.

Rules for calculation of contributions
     3. In relation to financial years beginning on or after 1st April 1999, in Schedule 1-

    (a) in paragraph 1(4), for "1998" there is substituted "1999";

    (b) in paragraph 4(4), for "1998 is £78,606,000" there is substituted "1999 is £82,506,000";

    (c) for the Table in Part II there is substituted-

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


Under Part II of Schedule 8 to the Local Government Finance Act 1988, billing authorities are required to pay amounts (called non-domestic rating contributions) to the Secretary of State. Payments in respect of a provisional amount of the contributions are made during the financial year, final calculations and any adjustments of payments being made after the year ends.

These Regulations amend the rules for calculation of contributions contained in the Non-Domestic Rating Contributions (England) Regulations 1992, with effect from 1st April 1999. Regulations 3 and 4 alter certain figures used in the calculation of contributions and provisional amounts.
