The Minister for the Civil Service, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) and (8)(a) of the Superannuation Act 1972[1] and now vested in him[2], hereby makes the following Order:-
1. This Order may be cited as the Superannuation (Admission to Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972) (No. 3) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 28th December 1998, but shall have effect from the dates specified in articles 2, 3 and 4.
2. Employment by the Churches Conservation Trust is hereby added to the employments listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972 with effect from 3rd October 1994.
3. With effect from 1st July 1996:
-
(a) the office of member of the Parole Board is hereby added to the offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972; and
(b) the office of Chairman of the Parole Board is hereby removed from the offices listed in that Schedule.
4.
The office of the Legal Services Ombudsman is hereby added to the offices listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972 with effect from 22nd September 1997.

Section 1 of the Superannuation Act 1972 (under which the Principal Civil Service Pension Scheme, the Civil Service Additional Voluntary Contribution Scheme and the Civil Service Compensation Scheme have been made) applies to employments and offices listed in Schedule 1 to that Act.
Article 2 of the Order adds employment by the Churches Conservation Trust to those listed in that Schedule. The Redundant Churches Fund was established by Pastoral Measure 1983 (No. 1) with power to appoint staff. It was renamed the Churches Conservation Trust by Pastoral (Amendment) Measure 1994 (No. 1). It receives grant-in-aid from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Article 3(a) of the Order adds to those listed in that Schedule the office of member of the Parole Board. The Chairman of the Parole Board is also a member of that body, and the separate listing of that office is accordingly removed from that Schedule by article 3(b) of the Order. Provision for the appointment of the members of the Parole Board is made by section 149 of, and Schedule 10 to, the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 (c. 33).
Article 4 of the Order adds the office of the Legal Services Ombudsman to those listed in Schedule 1 to the Superannuation Act 1972. Provision for the appointment of the Legal Services Ombudsman is made by section 21 of the Courts and Legal Services Act 1990 (c. 41).
Under the power conferred by section 1(8)(a) of the Superannuation Act 1972 the Order takes effect from the dates specified in articles 2, 3 and 4.
