ELECTRICITY

The Electricity Supply (Amendment) Regulations 1998

  Laid before Parliament 2nd December 1998 
  Coming into force 1st February 1999 

The Secretary of State, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 29 and 60 of the Electricity Act 1989[1], hereby makes the following Regulations:-

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as the Electricity Supply (Amendment) Regulations 1998 and shall come into force on 1st February 1999.

Amendment of the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988
    
2.  - (1) Regulation 3(1) of the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988[2] shall be amended as follows.

    (2) In the definition of "British Standard Requirements", for the words following the words "as amended by Amendment No. 1, 1994 (AMD 8536)" substitute-

      " and further amended by Amendment No. 2, 1997 (AMD 9781) and published (as amended) by the Institution of Electrical Engineers in 1997 in London (ISBN 0 85296 927 9, 1997);".

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations amend the definition of "British Standard Requirements", which is used in regulation 27 of the Electricity Supply Regulations 1988. Any consumer's installation which complies with the British Standard, Requirements for Electrical Installations: BS 7671: 1992, as amended in 1994 (AMD 8536) and again in 1997 (AMD 9781) is deemed to comply with the regulation 27 requirements as to safety. Copies of the British Standard Requirements (as amended) may be obtained from the Institution of Electrical Engineers, P.O. Box 96, Stevenage, SG1 2SD at a price of £42.00 in paperback or £55.00 as a loose-leaf publication.

These Regulations involve no additional costs to those affected and, therefore, no Regulatory Impact Assessment has been prepared.
