LOCAL GOVERNMENT, ENGLAND AND WALES

The Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (Public Bodies) (No. 4) Order 1998

  Made 25th June 1998 
  Laid before Parliament 30th June 1998 
  Coming into force 21st July 1998 

The Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and the Secretary of State for Wales, acting jointly in exercise of the powers conferred by section 1(5) of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970[1], hereby make the following Order:

Citation and commencement
     1. This Order may be cited as the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) (Public Bodies) (No. 4) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 21st July 1998.

Designation of public bodies
    
2. Each of the following, being a person appearing to the Secretary of State for the Environment, Transport and the Regions and to the Secretary of State for Wales to be exercising functions of a public nature, shall be a public body for the purposes of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970 in its application to England and Wales:

    Community Initiative Partnerships

    Hounslow Cultural and Community Services

    Hounslow Sport and Recreation Services.

Restrictions on agreements
    
3. Agreements which may be entered into by virtue of this Order by the bodies named in article 2 above shall be restricted to agreements with the council of the London Borough of Hounslow for the provision of administrative, professional or technical services by that authority to those bodies, in connection with the provision or management of leisure activities by those bodies within that authority's area.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)


Article 2 of this Order designates Community Initiatives Trust, Hounslow Cultural and Community Services and Hounslow Sport and Recreation Services as public bodies under section 1(5) of the Local Authorities (Goods and Services) Act 1970.

The effect of designation is to allow a local authority to provide goods and services to the designated bodies. By virtue of Article 3, the only authority permitted to do so is the London Borough of Hounslow, and the provision which that authority may make is restricted to administrative, professional or technical services in connection with the provision or management of leisure activities by the designated bodies within that authority's area.
