EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)

This Order, made under the United Nations Act 1946, amends the United Nations Arms Embargoes (Somalia, Liberia and Rwanda) (Channel Islands) Order 1996 by imposing restrictions on the delivery and supply of arms and related matériel to Sierra Leone, pursuant to a decision of the Security Council of the United Nations in Resolution No. 1171 of 5th June 1998, which terminated earlier restrictions relating to Sierra Leone and re-imposed more limited restrictions. The Order also revokes the Sierra Leone (United Nations Sanctions) (Channel Islands) Order 1997.

In addition, the Order amends the definition of "prohibited goods" in the above Order of 1996 in line with recent legislation, and makes certain other, minor, changes to that Order.
