NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE, ENGLAND AND WALES

The National Health Service (Dental Charges) Amendment Regulations 1998

  Laid before Parliament 6th March 1998 
  Coming into force 1st April 1998 

The Secretary of State for Health, in exercise of powers conferred on him by section 79A of, and paragraph 3(2) and 3(3) of Schedule 12 to, the National Health Service Act 1977[1] and all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Regulations: - 

Citation and commencement
     1. These Regulations may be cited as the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Amendment Regulations 1998 and shall come into force on 1st April 1998.

Amendment of the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989
    
2. In regulation 4 of the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989[2] (calculation of charges), in paragraph (5), for "£330" in both places where it occurs there shall be substituted "£340".

Revocation
     3. The National Health Service (Dental Charges) Amendment Regulations 1997[3] are hereby revoked.

Transitional Provisions
     4. Where, on or after 1st April 1998, appliances are supplied, or other general dental services are provided, in pursuance of a contract or arrangement for the provision of general dental services made before that date, regulation 4(5) of the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989 shall have effect in respect of that supply or other provision as if these Regulations had not come into force.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)


These Regulations further amend the National Health Service (Dental Charges) Regulations 1989 to increase from £330 to £340 the maximum charge payable by the patient for dental treatment and appliances, where the contract or arrangement leading to the provision of such treatment or appliances is made on or after 1st April 1998.
