The Secretary of State for Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by sections 42A(3)(c) and (5), 140(4) and 143(1) of the Local Government Finance Act 1988[1] and of all other powers enabling him in that behalf, hereby makes the following Order: Citation and commencement 1. This Order may be cited as the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (Wales) (Amendment) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 20th March 1998. Amendments to the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (Wales) Order 1997 2. - (1) The Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (Wales) Order 1997[2] shall be amended as follows. (2) In Part I of the Schedule -
Cwm.";
(c) "Llanllwni," shall be inserted after "Llanllawddog," in the list of communities mentioned under the sub-heading "In the County of Carmarthenshire".
(3) In Part II of the Schedule -
(b) "Llandough" shall be inserted after "Cowbridge with Llanblethian," in the list of communities mentioned under the sub-heading "In the County Borough of The Vale of Glamorgan".
(This note is not part of the Order) This order makes amendments to the Non-Domestic Rating (Rural Settlements) (Wales) Order 1997, which designates rural areas for the purposes of section 42A of the Local Government Finance Act 1988 ("the 1988 Act"), as inserted by Schedule 1 to the Local Government and Rating Act 1997. Section 42A of the 1988 Act makes provision for mandatory relief from non-domestic rates for certain general stores and post offices, and discretionary relief for hereditaments used for purposes beneficial to the local community, in certain rural settlements in areas designated as rural areas by order of the Secretary of State. The rural settlements are to be identified on lists drawn up by billing authorities. Notes: [1] 1988 c.41.
