The Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 132(1) of the Land Registration Act 1925[1], and with the concurrence of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Order: Title, commencement and interpretation 1. - (1) This Order, which supersedes the Land Registration (District Registries) Order 1997[2], may be cited as the Land Registration (District Registries) Order 1998 and shall come into force on 2nd March 1998. (2) In this Order, unless the context otherwise requires:
District Land Registries
(b) The district of each district land registry shall comprise on and from 1st April 1998 to 4th May 1998 inclusive the administrative areas specified opposite its name in column 3 in Part I or, as the case may be, Part II of the Schedule. (c) The district of each district land registry shall comprise on and from 5th May 1998 to 4th October 1998 inclusive the administrative areas specified opposite its name in column 4 in Part I or, as the case may be, Part II of the Schedule. (d) The district of each district land registry shall comprise on and from 5th October 1998 the administrative areas specified opposite its name in column 5 in Part I or, as the case may be, Part II of the Schedule.
(This note is not part of the Order) This Order, on 2nd March 1998, supersedes the Land Registration (District Registries) Order 1997 and: (1) changes the name of the Nottingham District Land Registry to the Nottingham (East) District Land Registry; (2) creates a new district land registry called the Nottingham (West) District Land Registry; (3) transfers responsibility for the registration of titles in Derby, Derbyshire and West Yorkshire from the Nottingham (East) District Land Registry (formerly the Nottingham District Land Registry) to the new Nottingham (West) District Land Registry; (4) on 5th May 1998 transfers responsibility for the registration of titles in Barnet, Herefordshire and Merton from the Harrow, Swansea and Telford District Land Registries respectively to the Swansea, Telford and Croydon District Land Registries respectively; (5) on 5th October 1998 transfers responsibility for the registration of titles in Portsmouth and East Riding of Yorkshire from the Weymouth and Kingston upon Hull District Land Registries respectively to the Portsmouth and York District Land Registries respectively; (6) takes account of the changes made to administrative areas in England on 1st April 1998 by:
The Devon (City of Plymouth and Borough of Torbay) (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1865); The Shropshire (District of The Wrekin) (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1866); The Hereford and Worcester (Structural, Boundary and Electoral Changes) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1867); The Lancashire (Boroughs of Blackburn and Blackpool) (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1868); The Essex (Boroughs of Colchester, Southend-on-Sea and Thurrock and District of Tendring) (Structural, Boundary and Electoral Changes) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1875); The Kent (Borough of Gillingham and City of Rochester-upon-Medway) (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1876); The Cambridgeshire (City of Peterborough) (Structural, Boundary and Electoral Changes) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1878); The Berkshire (Structural Change) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/1879);
but otherwise leaves unaltered the districts of the following District Land Registries:
